Sometimes known as a ‘cap’, dental crowns are an ideal restoration for teeth that have broken or have been weakened by decay or a very large filling.
A dental crown is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth to make it strong and give it the shape of a natural tooth. You may also choose a dental crown if you have discoloured fillings or have had root canal therapy which needs a crown to protect it. Dental crowns can also help to hold a bridge or denture firmly in place.
